Feet Study

Description

I did this foot study because I really want to get better at drawing, well... Feet. My goal is to go through every single foot image in my resources collection, and hopefully by the end I should find drawing feet to be a lot easier.

If you're one of those people trying to get better at drawing hands or feet, I challenge you to do this: Collect a bunch of images until it scares you and set a date to draw every single foot or hand in that image folder. I'd say a week if you've got lots of time. 2-3 if you're bombarded with your school work or job. Make it realistic. I can promise you that you'll get at least 10X better than you were before.
I've been doing just hands and feet for the last few days and I can already draw them with hardly any problems now. What this exercise does is build your visual library. Also, don't JUST copy like a brainless zombie. (That's easy to do) As you're drawing make either mental or physical notes when you begin to notice a pattern forming. (I've done that a little bit here)
Drawing hands and feet is all about repetition, as is anything else. Of course studying it helps, but drawing it again and again and again is what's going to make the biggest difference.

Sure, I feel like I can draw any foot or hand in any position at this moment, but that'll fade within a few days, maybe hours. Just keep on doing it over and over, everyday for a week or two. It's a memory game. Once upon a time I could cite the whole friggen periodic table. Obviously now that I'm out of practice, I can barely remember a single element...
Eventually you'll get it, and don't let yourself get out of practice. Keep on doing it. I can promise you great things will come of it. :la:

Obviously copying or refrencing from photographs will never replace drawing from life. If you have the chance to do this, find a model sketching club near you and join asap! That's the only real way you'll truly get better at drawing anatomy... That and studying muscle and bone structure. This type of practice should be used when those resources aren't available to you.

Also! I'd also like to say, don't try to draw from my drawings. You can if you want and I know it may be tempting, trust me I used to do the same thing. However, if you copy me then you are also going to copy my mistakes too. Draw from life or photo reference is the best way to go!

Ok. Enough of my little life lesson.
Hope that inspires some of you!
Enjoy!
